MCA Namibia brings 1.5 million cattle north of the Red Line closer to disease-free status
05 Apr 2012

The Millennium Challenge Account Namibia (MCA-N) has launched the second phase of its livestock ear-tagging programme NamLITS at the Otjerunda crush pen near Opuwo today.  This computerised cattle-monitoring system is regarded as crucial for the Northern Communal Areas (NCA) to control animal movement and diseases, which is a precondition for meat exports to lucrative markets such as the European Union.

There are approximately 1.5 million cattle in the NCA and up to 60% of the Namibian population could benefit directly or indirectly from this development.

Fully behind the tagging initiative: Petrus Iilonga, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Water and Forestry
